A modern house with wood and concrete exterior, large windows, and a sloped roof sits amid pine trees and landscaped rocks, with a driveway leading to a double garage.

Cantilever

Set against the iconic backdrop of Steamboat Mountain and Sleeping Giant, this 5,000-square-foot home was envisioned as a modern retreat suspended within the landscape. Cantilevered floor systems create a bold, architectural silhouette, allowing the upper level to seemingly float above the lower. Designed to frame views in every direction, the home’s rotated second story maximizes light and sightlines across both mountains. Inside, an open-concept layout flows seamlessly into expansive decks through large sliding doors, cultivating a fluid indoor-outdoor experience. Material contrast, vertical cedar above, large-format stone below, grounds the design while emphasizing its sculptural form. Every detail was shaped to celebrate setting and view.

Elevated With Intention

The 11-foot cantilever not only defines the architecture but frees the lower level to open fully to the surrounding landscape. A floating staircase further enhances this sense of lift, acting as both passage and focal point.
