We’re proud to share that Collective Architecture has been recognized with a 2025 Luxe RED Award for Interior Architecture for our work on a home that’s especially close to our hearts. Nestled on a hillside near Breckenridge ski resort, the Artist’s Retreat is a celebration of relationship-driven design. This home was created with care, purpose, and a deep respect for how our clients want to live.
From the beginning, homeowners Michele, an artist, and her husband Bart approached the project with a thoughtful vision. They wanted wide-open spaces for gathering, quiet corners for reflection, and a timeless palette that would feel both grounded and fresh for years to come.
Together, we designed a home that follows the natural slope of the land and captures sweeping mountain views from nearly every room. “Each room has a different view, and that was done by design,” Michele shared. Every space was placed with intention, offering a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape.
The layout flows naturally across the lot. This ranch-style home invites movement, light, and discovery. Long corridors guide you forward, framing curated vistas and small moments of beauty along the way.
Function shaped every design decision. The couple didn’t want anything unnecessary—only well-considered, livable spaces. We collaborated closely throughout the process, balancing bold ideas with thoughtful execution. From floor-to-ceiling windows to a glass bridge now filled with love notes and late-night sketches, every detail was intentional.
Architecturally, the home blends mountain modern character with Scandinavian simplicity. The standing seam metal wraps from roof to wall, creating a sense of cohesion and durability. Built to be airtight, low-maintenance, and long-lasting, the home is designed to stand the test of time.
Michele’s studio was one of the most important spaces to get right. Filled with natural light and surrounded by calm, it was designed to foster focus and creativity. Rather than isolating her, the studio creates a deeper connection to the mountain environment she loves.
This home doesn’t just reflect how Michele and Bart live—it supports it. From sunrise in the living room to quiet moments in the studio, every element serves a lifestyle centered on creativity, connection, and ease.
